This limited edition includes a number of 4th doctor related things all of which I will review here. There was only 5000 made and I have number 2808 of 5000. The packaging - I adore the packaging. Since this is a time capsule it is set out like one but with a doctor who twist. You can see the Seal of Rassilon in the centre which is nice and glossy. It is also very sturdy with foam inside to protect everything in there. The Mug - This is a special bonus if you choose to pay a little extra on BBC shop, it comes separately from the capsule but is very well protected, it was completely worth paying that little extra as it looks great with a picture of the 4th doctor (obviously) on it. The letter - 'Well isn't this great' I though to myself as I read this wonderful letter, Tom Bakers writing and words, signed by him with a date too. It mentions some of the things in the capsule and basically introduces you to what's inside. And it'll definitely make you laugh! 4th doctor full coloured print - A great thing that looks wonderful, it shows the 4th doctor looking very ominous surrounded by what looks like an alien sky, possibly Gallifrey. The 4th doctor regeneration figure - Something that many collectors have wanted for a while and will probably be very rare in future. It shows the 4th doctor exactly as he appears when he falls to the floor and regenerates after a visit to the planet of spiders. The joints move well and it is incredibly detailed, a great thing to have in your collection. 4th doctors Sonic Screwdriver - The great thing about this is you don't need to mess about trying to put batteries in it, they are already in there ready for you to unlock a door or set some bombs off scaring a Sea Devil. It looks brilliant and is very faithful to the original design. Part 2 of this review coming soon!

This is an excellent piece of merchandise which is perfect to remember the 50th anniversary year of doctor who. It is perfect for any collector or if you just don't have any cups at home! I most definitely will not be drinking out of it but will be keeping it as a souvenir. If you were planning to get it to drink out of it then it is easy and well made so you can make some tea, it may be a little hard to stir but it is still good. It is a little smaller than I first imagined but not really small. The price is just perfect, it is currently £8.99 so it is a good deal to buy especially if it becomes rare in future. The packaging is brilliant, I have kept my packaging and put the mug on top of it just in case it does become rare I can just put it back in and say I've never opened it. The likeliness on this one is good, if I had to rate it I would give it 8/10 but with the other one I got, the ninth doctor's likeliness is honestly a little bit rubbish 4/10, but I can understand how difficult it is to make it look like someone in mug form. And lastly the colours used are brilliant on this one although I can't make out his bow tie which is a shame. The ninth doctor's colours is also good although the hair needs to be a little further back. Overall a brilliant mug that I am proud to own, hopefully I can get them all with Christmas coming up and I recommend you do too. Rating: 8/10 Thanks to Booboo! Sorry it's taken me a little while to review it but here goes. It is a great plot and beautifully written, this story has always been one of those that I would really want to see and it's great that you can read it. The cover art is really quite good, it shows the doctor, Jamie, Victoria and an abominable snowman. In the story the opening chapters are really very good, it set's the story off at a good pace. It is also very mysterious the way it has been written and it does this so good as to keep you reading to see what happens. The way the book describes everything is really quite good and I love how all the characters have been written. After reading this novel it would be really great to see the actual thing. It has been beautifully re-told by Terrance Dicks with great writing and super descriptive skills. I would recommend this book to everyone. Sorry you've had to wait for this review and I'm in a bit of a rush so this review has been a little short so sorry. Anyway I give this story 8/10. The next one I will review will be 'The celestial toymaker' First of can I just say how happy I am to finally hold the Ace figure in my hand, I just love everything about it! It is super accurate and faithful to the amazing Sophie Aldred who plays Ace. The detail is wonderful and as I say above very faithful to the original, it even includes all the badges on her jacket (especially love the Blue Peter badges). The colours and detail is all immaculate, sometimes when you see pictures of it, it usually doesn't look like the picture but my figure really does look like this one on the left. One thing I will say is it's very fragile which means it struggles to stand up, the legs are particularly fragile due to they are quite small. The bag is great although there are a few problems with it, mostly paint related but it is easy to put on her due to her arms are very flexible. The bat looks good and can also be put into the bag from a little hole although it is a little hard to put in. You also get 3 cans of nitro-9 which look great and lastly the gun used in Rememberance of the Daleks (remember this figure is from that episode). The joints aren't stiff at all which is brilliant. To conclude a really great figure that looks good and I am so happy to finally have it. It could also be possible that they make variants like they have done with Leela and Peri so I would love her from Survival. Rating: 9/10 A really excellent information book here of all things doctor who, very good for any whovian especially as a kind of beginners guide if your only just getting into doctor who, it includes a mass of monsters from Daleks to Silurians. It includes facts of classic monsters as well as new ones which is great. The cover is brilliant, perfect for the kind of book it is, the font and the way it looks all scratched is very effective, and the colours are also great. I particularly love the Cyberman you can see at the top, a bit refreshing from Daleks on a lot of information books. The information is set out particularly well, it is easy to read and makes it easy to understand for younger readers. There is some great pictures in here as well as some facts you may not have heard before, it even includes a little fact file with like the home planet and things. In conclusion a great book and definitely worth picking up, there are some parts that you may have heard of but as I say I think it is more of a beginners guide to doctor who. Rating: 8/10 Please note this is only available at Toys r us stores or the Toys r us site. This set is very good for any whovian especially if you like Daleks. There will be 11 of these doctor and Dalek set's released, so far 2, 5,6,7,9,10th doctors have all been released with their appropriate Dalek. This set is unique because although the Imperial Dalek has been released before, this Dalek is in the new mould. The Dalek looks very good and detailed. They have been slightly careless in the fact that they have just covered the whole 'dome' black instead of writing the code below the eyestalk which isn't very detailed. All the joints work well and is very easy to move. I give this figure 4/5. With the ninth doctor I am slightly biased because I hate all 9th doctor figures as they look oddly proportioned and just odd really. And this figure is no exception. The jacket doesn't fit him and sticks out (but remember all 9th doctor figures are like this not just this one) the space between the neck and head is always so obvious! The colours used are good and detailed but overall there's not much you can say about it. I give this figure 2/5. Overall a great set and definitely worth picking up! Rating: 6/10 (As requested by Handbot10) This is a really super collection and definitely worth buying a pack. I wouldn't say it is good as other trading card collection like the 'doctor who monster invasion card set' which included more detail and variety. The set is split up into rainbow foil, mirror foil, aliens, humans, companions time lords and a few others. It is obviously a good idea to split them up in to category's so they are easier to understand. The cards are very good, some common ones are a bit rubbish and personally I think this is because they don't have a background. My favourites are the mirror foil, these are the second most important (rainbow foil most important) but I think they look loads more detailed, well made and are nice and shiny. But the rainbow foil cards are also good but they don't look as amazing, the rarest card (11th doctor) is a rainbow foil and doesn't look very good to say it is the rarest. The 'chase' cards are amazing, they are good because the company makes money and I always find it fun looking for them (luckily managed to get them all). The binder is very good, struggled a bit at first trying to get the cards in but it get's easy after a while. The tin is very good and detailed. You get 'chase' cards in the tin and binder. Overall this is a really great set, a few faults with the common cards but the rest are fine and I recommend this set. I am looking forward to the 50th anniversary set of these, you get costume cards and I am sure they will look brilliant. Rating: 7/10 I have been wanting these for AGES so I am very happy that I finally have them. Everything about them amazing. I will start with the criticisms first. The ninth and the third doctor's don't stand up very well which is always annoying but all you need is a bit of blu-tack to sort this out. I am a bit angry that he fifth doctor isn't wearing his hat which is as much a part of his costume as his celery. Lastly it would be good if the figures had more features like a removable hat for the fourth doctor or a removable trench coat for the tenth doctor. All these criticisms are very small things and don't really effect how amazing these are. Getting these out of the packaging took a while but that is to be expected because you get eleven figures (I had to have a rest at the seventh doctor) but otherwise they were quite easy to get out of the packaging there was just the wire kind of stuff around the figures which isn't too hard to get off. Overall getting them out of the packaging wasn't hard as some other merchandise I have (*cough* union jack dalek). Once out of the packaging these are really great figures and easy to play with. Some of the joints are a bit stiff but that's to be expected I guess. The detail is sublime and have been done with lot's of care. My least favourite figure is maybe the ninth doctor but I never like 9th doctor figures they always look badly proportioned and odd. My favourite figure is either the 1st doctor, 4th doctor, 6th doctor, 8th doctor and 10th doctor (really hard to choose). The price i think is quite fair, i got mine for £49.99 at forbidden planet which is good to say you get 11 figures. Overall a great set and I really recommend you buy this, it is perfect for any whovian. Rating: 9/10 This came out a while ago but I thought I might as well review it now. For me in series 7 of doctor who the sonic screwdriver was WAY overused (I am writing an article about this in the 'features' section)but I guess it is the doctors greatest weapon in the whole universe. The Sonic is great, unlike some things it is quite easy to get out of the packaging. I can't remember if it came with batteries but it would be best if it did. It is very authentic to the original (be it in plastic) and the light and sounds are also very authentic to the original. The end bit is like a lid as it kind of opens and mine has fallen off which isn't very good. I don't like the fact that to press the red button under the lid you have got to have the screwdriver in the largest position I really hate that (hope you get what I mean) The colours are great and are again very authentic. Overall a great product and I am glad I bought one. Rating: 7/10. This is a limited edition 50th anniversary doctor who item so it will be a great way to remember the 50th anniversary of doctor who. This was AWFUL to get out of the packaging, you would not believe how long it took us to get out of the box. First you have cut the sellotape off which is fine then you get to the wire which is a bit annoying but you get over it and then you have plastic covering every available orifice which Is hell trying to get off but you put it behind you and then you try pull it off the cardboard, look underneath and staring back at you are four screws glinting at you like the devil, anger rises in you but you think 'maybe it will be easy to get off' I get my sonic screwdriver and spent half an hour getting them off and by the time they came off you just want to throw the damn thing from the window! Once you get through this horrifying ordeal you will find that it is really great and good for any whovian around the world (well unless you don't like the Union Jack) The SFX are great using phrases like 'you will be obliterated' and of course 'Exterminate!!'. The voice is very clear and easy to understand and sound very Dalek. The eyestalk lights up as you can see in the picture and the ears also light up when it talks but when it lights up, it doesn't exactly match what it's saying also the ears keep stopping flashing (but that may just be my dodgy batteries). The detail in the sucker arm and eyestalk are all very authentic and well made. The paint is just brilliant, I was expecting something wrong with the painting but it was all even and resembled the Union Jack perfectly. Overall this is a great product and definitely worth picking up. Thanks for reading! Rating: 10/10 |
