The Box of horrors
Synopsis: 7th July, 3rd century AD, Greece. A young girl between 8 to 10 years old walked slowly down the thin cobbled street, she had long brown hair and purple robes that blew around her in the rare breeze. She unlike most other people wasn't rushing through the streets, she took in all the sounds of the merchants shouting out their deals and talking to possible buyers, the smell of the hot food or fish. She stopped to marvel at some of the fruit, some of which she had never seen before. There was also the odd stall that sold mysterious objects and ornaments. She kept walking after a particular long look at a orb that seemed to move as people walked past it. As she walked she began hearing a whispering in her ear, not like the merchants or the crowd, the voice was otherworldly, like a quite screeching, she followed the voice and it led her to a box. A most mysterious box with odd markings on it. She lifted it up and pressed her ear against it. It whispered to her. Then suddenly, everything stopped. The people in the street began to fade until she was standing in an empty street, just her and the voice of the box. Then a sudden burst of light shot from out of the box, she screamed and was sucked into the swirling vortex of light, the echo of her scream was all that was left. The box was thrown into a nearby ditch, where it would stay for hundreds of years. The street returned to normal.
Chapter 1, The discovery: Many, many years later, the whining of the TARDIS engines cracked through the peaceful silence disturbing some birds in a nearby tree. The blue box appeared magically looking very out of place in a sunny field. Out stepped a tall man with unusual clothes and wacky hair, his long multi-coloured scarf trailed behind him and behind that was his faithful assistant Sarah Jane Smith. 'So where are we this time?' asked Sarah Jane casually. 'Don't know, although judging by the sun, it's 1927, July 1st to be precise. A Thursday.' he said staring, taking in all his surroundings. They stood there for a few seconds before the doctor jumped abruptly, he had finished his scan of the area and turned to Sarah Jane, 'fancy a walk?' he said grinning broadly. He grabbed her arm before she could answer and they began running through the field, away from the TARDIS.
They had been walking for over an hour, Sarah was beginning to go red with the heat but the doctor seemed unfazed by the heat. 'Can we rest now doctor?' 'Rest!... Rest!... Life's too short for rest. He said carrying on walking.' 'What is it?' 'What is what?'
'Well you've obviously seen something or we wouldn't still be here.'
'Okay, okay. Yes, when we first got here I felt it, there's something alien here and we need to find it.' he said turning to Sarah and doing another reassuring broad grin.
They carried on walking.
They had been walking for about 4 hours now. Tired and breathing heavily, the doctor finally stopped and shouted 'It's here!' but the doctor's happiness was cut short when Sarah smacked his arm.
'What is it?'
'Look, look over there!' he looked to where she was pointing. 'What do you see?' Even through the hazy wave created by the heat, the outline of a blue box could be seen in the distance. The doctor grinned to himself. 'We've walked all that way just to come back to where we started.' Sarah said angrily.
'At least you've got a tan.' the doctor said grinning to Sarah. Even though she was still angry she couldn't help laughing at his innocent grin.
The doctor lead the way to the object they had been searching for since they got there, it lay glinting in the now setting sun, the magical patterns and ridges, exactly the same as when the girl in the street picked it up. The quite screeching the doctor had heard was getting louder, he looked over to Sarah, from the look on her face he could tell she could now hear it. He picked it up, it was half buried in the ground. The doctor lifted it up into the air holding it like a dog who has just found a stick. He pressed it against his ear, with Sarah's ear pressed against the other side. Suddenly the vortex of light that once took away a little girl in a busy street shot out, swirling around the doctor and Sarah. There wasn't even enough time for them to scream, and they were gone. The box was dropped where the doctor once stood. All that was left was the TARDIS which stood silently and odd in the Greek field.

Chapter 2, The impossible challenge:
The doctor finally awoke to the sound of dripping water coming from an eroded pipe He struggled to get up on the iron grates that made up the floor, red from the many years of neglect. He stood in the dark room, the only source of light came from the walls, they seemed to glow with a faint orange. He sniffed deeply making his nostrils flair, just by this simple act he could estimate the age of the room, presumably 100 years old, it also looked abandoned and neglected, the doctor thought of the Mary Celeste, a ship that was found deserted in the ocean, he grinned to himself as he remembered the Daleks had chased everyone off. The fond memory was cut short as he turned in all directions taking in the rest of the room, looking for Sarah. He checked everywhere in the dim room but all that was there was a few boxes with numbers on them, all in semi darkness. He ran to a window and looked wide eyed out of it. He was in space, stars glittered in front of him of all different colours. He was on some kind of space station, abandoned many years ago, no TARDIS, no way of getting out and most importantly; no Sarah...
Sarah Jane awoke, and jumped up. She looked around the dark, rusty room. She was on the same ship as the doctor in the exact same room, although she didn't know it. She ran to the same window the doctor had looked out of and stared in awe at the glittering stars, she could feel herself beginning to cry, thinking her home was out there somewhere. She had momentarily forgot about how much trouble she was in, she then came out of the trance of the beautiful stars. She sat down on an old box having checked all the walls looking for a door and being unsuccessful. She thought about it logically then suddenly, the doctor appeared, like a hologram he grinned at her, she got up to hug him but the doctor quickly told her to stop.
'Doctor where are we, what's going on?' she asked frantically.
'Sarah, calm down. Go to one of the boxes, turn it over and press the button inside.' he said before suddenly disappearing.
She ran to where he once stood but he was definitely gone. She then thought about what he said and ran to a box, she looked inside it. Nothing. She pulled another one. Nothing. Finally she found it, she peered inside and in it was a grimy red button. She carefully prodded it. Suddenly the wall opened up with a mass of noise and smoke and out ran the doctor. He picked her up and gave her a wide hug. She quickly pulled away.
'Where are we? What..' she was cut short by the doctor.
'We're inside the box, it sucked us inside and now we're here. It split us up to see how we would handle. Inside one of the boxes, (he ran to one in the corner and pulled out a scroll) is this... It says 'Hello doctor, you will be put under a series of challenges, mental, physical or otherworldly and you will compete in them, every time you win, you come closer to leaving, every time you loose, an evil horror will be released to planet Earth, good luck.'
He finished. Silence. 'I've been here for 2 days trying to get to you' the doctor laughed breaking the silence. 'This place has sucked many people up until we came here and it got us.' The doctor stopped seeing Sarah Jane's uneasy look.
'Well we better get started then' she said turning and smiled at the doctor.

Chapter 3, The first task:
The wall next to where they were standing opened up with a screaming siren and smoke. They entered the room. It was dimly lit with a few lights along the walls. They were in some kind of house, a unwelcoming, unlived in dead house. The smell of mould and damp hit you forcefully. The doctor and Sarah waited while their eyes adjusted to the near complete darkness. Cobwebs covered nearly everything and a moth eaten, patterned carpet let them to a grand staircase that lead up to the darkness. They had entered through the front door it seemed, when Sarah went back to try the door to get out it was impossible to move. They were locked in a abandoned old house.
'I don't feel good about this place, doctor.' said Sarah, her bottom lip trembling.
'Neither do I...' said the doctor with more intrigue than worry.
Suddenly an old 1950's record player turned on, the vinyl disk spinning when a muffled voice began to come out of it. A ghostly, distant voice that seemed to be coming closer until a female voice came out of it. 'Hello again. This is your first task, is to find an object in this Earth house that was abandoned many years ago, but beware, many traps await you...'
It finished.
'Well... what object...doctor?' Sarah asked wearily. 'I don't know.' the doctor said. 'Let's go find it.' he turned to Sarah with a big grin that Sarah could see clearly in the near darkness.
They began searching around the hallway making sure to stick together, a collapsed table lay broken on the floor, nearly everything had a thick layer of dust on it, you could even see their footprints on the dust covered floor, like snow.
'Where do you suppose we are, doctor? asked Sarah starting to become a little more comfortable. 'I don't know, from what she said it could be some notoriously haunted building somewhere on Earth, been abandoned for at least 50 years.' He picked up an tattered old book and smelled it. 'Yep, been abandoned for 58 years, and I believe we are somewhere in America, Texas maybe. he finished still looking round.
They carried on searching, when suddenly a loud bang erupted from upstairs. They both stopped and turned to look at each other. Without a second though the doctor ran up the stairs three at a time and into the darkness, leaving Sarah alone. Suddenly another bang erupted. Sarah began to run after him into the darkness, she came up onto a landing type place, with grand paintings covering most of the wall. She crept along the hallway in the semi-darkness, and up another flight of stairs, she had reached yet another landing, where suddenly she fell over a black mass causing her to hit the ground forcefully and fell unconscious.
The doctor was running through the corridors past rooms of darkness up many flights of stairs, constantly feeling he was being watched until finally he found the old wooden box which had been repeatedly thrown against the floor. It began to glow and the doctor knew he had found the object he was searching for. He turned to leave the room but the old wooden door was slammed shut causing dust to rise. He was trapped. And he could feel it, watching him. The hairs on the back of his neck stood on end. He turned to see a horrible sight...
