The TARDIS watcher (my 50th anniversary book)
Synopsis:
Ever since the doctor stole his TARDIS, someone has been watching him... A time lord technician, born on Gallifrey and got the job of fixing broken TARDIS's at the age of 152 , on a normal morning for him he was inside a TARDIS fixing it's chameleon circuit, he stopped as he heard voices outside, he got up to see what the problem was but hid quickly as an old man and a young woman stepped sneakily into the TARDIS.
'come on my dear' said the man 'let's travel the stars!'
He began pulling leavers and pressing buttons as if he had known the box all his life, the whirring of the engines began and the rotor began spinning they were in flight but little did they know they had someone else aboard, and as they flew further away from Gallifrey the man left the control room and began wondering the TARDIS corridors... watching...

Chapter 1, the first doctor:
The First Doctor sat in a large, gothic armchair in a corner of the console room, his head resting on his hand, a book on one of the armchair arms and a small glass of brown liquid swirling in his free hand. He was bored. He watched the rotor rise and fall with tired eyes. He was aware he was inside a spaceship that could go anywhere in time and space but what was the point without anyone else seeing it? Susan was gone, Ian and Barbara were asleep in their bedrooms. The doctor missed Susan so much, he was thinking about where she might be now when... CRASH! The sound of breaking glass echoed around the TARDIS. The doctor rolled his eyes, obviously Ian or Barbara must have knocked something over. He got up and walked lazily leaning on his walking stick to where the sound originated. He turned a corner to see glass covering the floor like water. The doctor leaned over to take a closer look as to what was now broken in a million pieces. It was a wine glass, the doctor must have got it from Queen Victoria as it had the royal seal on it. It wasn't a particular treasure of his, he was just angry that it got broken in the first place.
"Ian... Barbara!" He shouted angrily. "Ian! Barbara!" He shouted again louder.
He heard shuffling coming from their rooms.
"What doctor?" Said Ian sleepily.
"What happened here?" Said Barbara appearing behind Ian staring at the broken glass.
"Don't act all innocent here! How DARE you break such a treasured item of mine!" roared the doctor at Ian and Barbara.
"We wouldn't do such a thing!" retorted Barbara.
"I don't believe it. What broke it then? Scotch Mist?" said The Doctor.
"How are we supposed to know, we were -"
"I don't care" said The Doctor, his eyes boring into Ian and Barbara. "You will clean up this mess you've made, you should be lucky I don't send you straight back to where I found you."
The Doctor then turned, cursing under his breath back towards the control room leaving Ian and Barbara staring disbelievingly at The Doctors back, before they silently cleaned up the glass and went back to bed. "How dare he blame us like children. I hate that man sometimes" said a seething Barbara.
"Well Susan has just left, not surprising really." Said Ian yawning before saying goodnight to Barbara and closing his door, Barbara doing the same.
The technician slid out of his hiding place, sweating profusely at nearly being caught. He had to be more careful! He didn't want to get on the wrong side of this 'Doctor'.

Chapter 2, the second doctor:
The Second Doctor leaned on the TARDIS console playing a jaunty tune on his recorder accompanied by the sleepy laughing and giggling of Jamie and Victoria who swayed drunkenly along with the music. They had only just returned to the TARDIS after yet another battle with the Cybermen and they were all incredibly tired yet happy to be alive. The TARDIS made soft noises as if about to fall asleep, just like everyone else in the TARDIS. the mood in the room was calm happy. Victoria was just about to fall asleep on Jamie's shoulder and looked up just in time to see a figure run past one of the console room door's which led into a corridor. She screamed. The mood in the TARDIS quickly changed: The doctor stopped his tune and turned to where Victoria was looking, Jamie who was also about to fall asleep jumped up, banged his head on the console and fell back down again and the TARDIS made an angry noise as if too had been woken from sleep.
"What is it Victoria?" said the doctor looking alarmed following Victoria's frightened gaze.
"Something... something ran past the door!" said Victoria shrilly and close to tears.
"What's going on?" said Jamie in a thick Scottish accent rubbing his head. "Why did you scream?" he said looking angrily at Victoria.
"Something ran past the door!" Victoria repeated.
The doctor got up slowly followed by a grumbling Jamie and together they cautiously walked to the door. The doctor poked his head out of the door and looked both ways down the corridor.
"Well if something was here it isn't anymore" The doctor said.
"You must have been imagining thing's" said Jamie. "I'm going to bed" he said before leaving in a huff.
"Do you believe me, doctor?" asked Victoria.
"Of course I do, we'll solve the mystery tomorrow. Now, you look tired, get some rest" said the doctor with a comforting smile.
"Yes okay... good.. goodnight" Said Victoria with fear still etched upon her face.
"Would you like me to walk you to your room?" asked The Doctor smiling.
"No... no that's okay" replied Victoria returning the smile before cautiously leaving for her bedroom. The Doctor could hear her running the last few feet to her room, scared something would jump out and get her thought The Doctor.
The Doctor had another look down corridor, before returning to his recorder. Could she have been imagining it...?

Chapter 3, the third doctor:
The third doctor stared thoughtfully at a small white object that looked a little like an egg.
"What you got there?" said Jo entering the control room and sitting down in a chair next to the console.
"Some kind of explosive..." said the doctor turning to Jo. "Deactivated" he said seeing the worried expression on Jo's face "Honestly, I don't use the TARDIS for a little while and I find all sorts of junk that I didn't know I even had... still, it's good to back with the old girl" said the doctor smiling at the console.
"So where shall we go now?" asked Jo.
"Well, there is this planet in the Gastrax constellation that I think you will like." He said throwing the explosive aside.
The doctor began pulling leavers and pressing buttons "This planet has some really good..." The doctor stopped abruptly. "Can you hear that Jo?" asked the doctor.
Jo listened carefully... a wailing siren had started deep within the TARDIS.
"Yes, it's a siren. Did you press something?"
"Of course not, come on" said the doctor as he pulled Jo from the chair and dragged her through the door leading to a corridor.
They ran through corridor after corridor passing many different rooms (Jo could have sworn she saw a swimming pool) following the
siren as it got louder and louder until finally they reached a red flashing light and loud noises.
"Goodness I didn't realise how big this place was!" she shouted through the noise.
"Let's turn that off" said the doctor pulling out his sonic screwdriver and silencing the noise.
"There we are, we can think now" said the doctor smiling at Jo.
The doctor began poking at wires, he did this for a couple of seconds before finding the problem.
"Aha, someone has unplugged this wire... how did that happen..." said the doctor staring at the unplugged wire.
"Well maybe it happened whilst you didn't use the TARDIS?" said Jo.
"No the alarm goes off as soon as it has been unplugged." said the doctor quickly.
"Well then it must have just fallen out, things do that after a while." said Jo reasonably.
"Yes, yes I suppose you must be right. Come on then the Gastrax constellation waits." the doctor smiled at Jo then together they made the long walk back to the console room.

Chapter 4, the fourth doctor:
"I saw a ghost last night Doctor" said Leela ominously.
'What? The Doctor said abruptly jumping up from his game of chess with K9.
"SHE SAID SHE SAW-"
"I know, I heard K9." Said The Doctor silencing the metal dog.

Chapter 5, the fifth doctor:
The fifth doctor leaned on the console while Tegan and Turlough sat. They were discussing strange noises they heard in the TARDIS. "It just isn't possible Tegan." said the doctor to Tegan as she described hearing someone walk past her bedroom door.
"But I heard it doctor!" she pleaded.
"It must have been Turlough" said the doctor reasonably.
"No, I was in bed" said Turlough tiredly who was obviously bored by the conversation.
"Yes well..." The doctor stopped mid sentence staring at the console. "There's something I am missing..." What's that?" he asked pointing at the console.
"What's what? asked Tegan looking at the doctor with a frown on her face.
"It's off... the defences are off..." he said looking at the leaver that controls the defences in the obvious 'off' position.
"What!" said Turlough getting to his feet and looking for the defences leaver. "Why are we still standing here?" he said looking worried.
"Because the defences are off, something has already got in the TARDIS, it's stopping us from moving" said the doctor trying in vain to move his arm.
BANG! the TARDIS began shaking, sparks shot from the TARDIS. The doctor, Tegan and Turlough fell to the floor, they had regained their ability to move, the doctor pulled himself up and pushed the leaver for defences into the 'on' position but it was too late the TARDIS was being pulled down a time corridor, heading for another battle with the daleks...

Chapter 6, the sixth doctor:
"How boring..." exclaimed the sixth doctor pushing Peri out of the way to get a better view at the majestic forest. "Probably nothing special has ever happened here!" he said frowning. The sun was blaring down at The Doctor and Peri causing them to squint. They had arrived in a small clearing which barely fit the blue box, noises of the creatures and critters droned on.
"Oh come on doctor, it's amazing! said Peri, her American accent echoing around the small clearing. "- I remember coming here as a kid, it was always -"
"We could go anywhere in time and space" said the Doctor interrupting Peri from her memories. "The battle of Hastings, the destruction of Goran minor, the collapse of the great diamond waterfall and you want to look at a forest."
"Well its important to me!" said Peri indignantly.
"C'mon Peri, there's so much more to see. The diamond waterfall was voted the number 1 attraction." The Doctor said smugly. "Next to Disney World, Clom of course" he added.
"Fine... I guess. But I really wish we could go somewhere I like and stay there for more than 10 minutes."
But the Doctor was already inside the ship, the engines began to groan. Peri had just made it into the TARDIS before it disappeared completely from the clearing.
Inside the TARDIS The Doctor began pressing buttons and pulling levers running all around the console energetically as Peri watched. Suddenly the console exploded into smoke and flames, fire began poring from the console, the doctor tried pressing buttons but this just created more flames and sparks. The console was just becoming a ball of fire when Peri came forward with a big fire extinguisher "How does this thing work!" Peri shouted at the doctor looking alarmed.
The doctor pulled the extinguisher from her and seconds later white smoke was pouring from the extinguisher all around the console until the last flames were gone from the console. The console was blackened and broken but luckily still working.
"Did you press something?" The doctor shouted to Peri.
"No!" she shouted resolutely back.
"You must have! For that to happen someone had to have pressed something!" He said staring from Peri to the console.
"I promise you I didn't!"

Chapter 7, the seventh doctor:
Ace wondered confidently through the TARDIS corridors alone. She had walked the corridors many times, each time getting a little bit lost (although she didn't like to admit it), each time finding somewhere new as if it would grow like a plant spreading it's roots looking for water. Moments before she had walked out of the console room with the 7th doctors instructions of finding the cognate screw for the console, she walked past her bedroom along another corridor and into a wide space she knew she'd never seen before. Her heartbeat raced like it does whenever she get's lost, she began thinking rationally, breathing deeply slowing her heart beat, she was strong and boisterous, yet she never let's her fear show. 'Through the corridor, turn left, turn right, through the pool, first left, and it should be in that room' the doctor had told her. She began to retrace her steps but she must have got lost. The corridor where she was walking was getting darker the further she went along it, she couldn't even see the end, it was a like there was nothing, emptiness at the end. Then she remembered she was in the TARDIS, the doctors home, she was safe. Remembering the doctors instructions she walked down the corridor further and further, the darkness swallowing her up. She kept walking ignoring the niggle in her head telling her to go back. She had reached the end of the corridor to a little door, she couldn't see her hand in front of her, it was lucky the door handle was lit up. She pulled the door knob but her worst fear was confirmed: it was locked. The fear really took hold of her at this point, she did not want to walk back through the corridor but she had to. The next thing she knew footsteps were slowly coming towards her, fear gripped her. 'Doctor!' she shouted. Silence apart from the footsteps. Then she remembered, she had her torch in her jacket pocket. She pulled it out with shaking hands and turned it on... The beam travelled a little way along the corridor. She squinted into the beam, a figure ran through the beam. 'ARGHH!' she screamed. The figure was walking towards her, it's black form hovering over her. She fell to the floor, shaking in fear, tears streaming down her. She barely heard the click of the door behind her and light bursting into the corridor. The face of the figure lit up, pale and scratched, Gandre turned and ran back up the corridor. Ace turned to the opened door to see the doctor standing there, staring at the spot where the figure stood with a grim face. His face broke into a grin when he saw Ace, tears still running down her face, still shaking in fear. The doctor bent down and pulled Ace up with his arm around her, he pulled her through the door revealing the bright console room.

Chapter 8, the eighth doctor:
The doctor was once again alone. No companion, no friends. He stared at the TARDIS console, his only true friend, he smiled at her, they had been through so much together. He reminisced for a few minutes before finally deciding that he would go somewhere, just a little trip too cheer himself up. He began moving around the console energetically, putting the console on random. He opened the blue doors with a grin across his face, it was always a thrill to see what was behind the doors. He opened them to a beautiful forest with birds of all different sizes flying around, the sun shining in the deep blue sky. It was magnificent! The smile left him as he remembered the best part of all, someone seeing it with him, someone he could express the joy of it to. He took another look at the forest before deciding it wasn't worth it without someone seeing it with him and walking back to the TARDIS. He once again was staring at the console, a glum expression across his face. He sat down leaning on his hand, the TARDIS humming softly. A few minutes passed before the doctor slumped over onto the console, he was fast asleep.
He didn't know how long he had been asleep but his eyes opened wide. He had just noticed he was being watched. The hairs on the back of his neck stood on end, something was just behind him. He didn't move a muscle instead he looked at it's reflection in the glass. He was small with long black hair, green eyes and a large amount of cut's across his face. The doctor was just looking at a pretty big scar across his eye when he noticed the dark green eyes were staring straight at the doctor's wide ones. The doctor sat straight upright and turned to look at the figure was but it was too late there was nothing there. That was the doctor's first look at something that he knew had been terrorising him and his companions ever since he first stole the blue box and he was going to find out what it was...

Chapter 9, The War Doctor:
The TARDIS engines roared and screeched and screamed as The Doctor hurled abuse at the precarious looking new console which seemed to have gone for a coral theme this time but keeping the old roundels. Flames erupted from the console pouring sparks over Gandre in his hiding place opposite the Doctor behind a mass of wires (despite the constantly changing interior Gandre thought he knew all the different hiding places quite well, despite this, he always felt The Doctor knew of his presence.) The Doctor then hit the console with his fist causing more flames, he muttered angrily under his breath as he did this. The TARDIS was making a deafening amount of noise now as though she was arguing back to The Doctor. Like the TARDIS, Gandre also didn’t much like this new Doctor. His behaviour was erratic and unpredictable – one minute he would be drinking a cup of tea while reading a book, next he would be shouting furiously at nothing. But most of this new Doctors time wasn’t actually spent inside the TARDIS, back when he first regenerated into the rugged young man – Gandre had heard of a huge war on Gallifrey with a race of creatures called the Daleks – he deduced this was what was taking up so much of the new Doctors time (he said ‘new’ Doctor when in fact age was already beginning to show on his face – new scars and cuts appeared constantly).
The TARDIS landed with a jolt, before the TARDIS could barely calm down, the Doctor had ran, limping slightly he opened the door to shouts and screams and explosions but most distinguishable were the cries of ‘exterminate’ which echoed around the TARDIS. A ball of fire erupted around the TARDIS doors and another one shot straight into the TARDIS causing a large black hole to form in the roundels, the TARDIS door creaked closed again and all was silent but the sizzling of the still burning wall – smoke still coming off it. Gandre was actually rather thankful, he had something to do at least. He pulled out a fire extinguisher, and then started trying to fix the damage whilst talking aloud to the TARDIS. He was just about finished when a loud siren erupted from the console with red spinning flashing lights – he ran to the small screen where many Gallifreyan symbols spelt ‘DANGER!’ Something was happening outside. The walls were beginning to glow orange now, getting hotter and hotter. The Daleks were trying to destroy the TARDIS, Gandre had heard about this, they were attempting to destroy TARDISes in bulk to trap the Time Lords on Gallifrey. The roundels began to explode showering Gandre in glass, he was frantically pressing buttons, he’d never actually piloted the ship before but he’d seen the Doctor do it thousands of times and just as the doors exploded inwards blowing flames around the doorway the TARDIS engines sounded. He landed. The walls still glowing, glass covering the floor. Blood covered Gandre as he lay on the floor. He felt funny, he pulled himself up and to his surprise… he was glowing. In a sudden burst of flames and fire he changed… he regenerated… And with this new regeneration he vowed he would forever protect the TARDIS, as the Doctor obviously didn’t care anymore.
