As anybody who collects classic doctor who DVD's will tell you there a quite a lot of episodes where you just get incredibly bored to tears, and you really struggle to watch the whole thing without pausing every 10 minutes, here I will tell you how to approach watching them and when is best to watch them. Now I am speaking from experience, my first classic serial I bought It took me nearly a week to watch it because I was pausing it and things, and that serial was only a four parter, but since then I have over 50 classic DVD's and I am finding it easier to watch them, so now for the advice.... When to watch it? Personally I find it easier to watch episodes on a night time due to the fact you have got rid of all your energy during the day and you can just sit and relax and fully appreciate the story. If your bored or something is another good time to watch them. But mainly on a night just before you are about to go to bed is best. How to watch them? I recommend at first watching it one episode at a time because as you should know classic episodes were serials with lot's of different episodes in one story, each story was usually half an hour long, so if it was a 4 part episode, watch 1 episode one day then another the next, this way you can really let the first part sink in and you can understand the story better Which episodes should you watch? I recommend watching some Tom Baker/ Jon Pertwee episodes first because these episodes were good length and there were some great episodes in this era. I especially recommend Robert Holmes's episodes they are ALL absolutely AMAZING!!! My favourite episode(s) is Carnival of Monsters and City of death so you should definitely watch these. Then I would move on to McCoy then the 1st,2nd,5th,6th doctors episodes (because 1st and 2nd doctor episodes in black and white, 5th doctor story's aren't very strong, and the 6th doctor episodes were 3 quarters of an hour long so you can get bored easily. Everything I have said above does sound a little mean but it is the truth, they are all amazing episodes in their own way but because they are split into many parts the writers have to compensate by writing complete rubbish or even small talk, but what you have to remember is when it aired, it was shown episode 1, then a week later episode 2 but when you get them on a DVD all the episodes are all at once so you really notice this small talk, or boring cut-away's.
