As anybody who collects classic doctor who DVD's will tell you there a quite a lot of episodes where you just get incredibly bored to tears, and you really struggle to watch the whole thing without pausing every 10 minutes, here I will tell you how to approach watching them and when is best to watch them. Now I am speaking from experience, my first classic serial I bought It took me nearly a week to watch it because I was pausing it and things, and that serial was only a four parter, but since then I have over 50 classic DVD's and I am finding it easier to watch them, so now for the advice.... When to watch it? Personally I find it easier to watch episodes on a night time due to the fact you have got rid of all your energy during the day and you can just sit and relax and fully appreciate the story. If your bored or something is another good time to watch them. But mainly on a night just before you are about to go to bed is best. How to watch them? I recommend at first watching it one episode at a time because as you should know classic episodes were serials with lot's of different episodes in one story, each story was usually half an hour long, so if it was a 4 part episode, watch 1 episode one day then another the next, this way you can really let the first part sink in and you can understand the story better Which episodes should you watch? I recommend watching some Tom Baker/ Jon Pertwee episodes first because these episodes were good length and there were some great episodes in this era. I especially recommend Robert Holmes's episodes they are ALL absolutely AMAZING!!! My favourite episode(s) is Carnival of Monsters and City of death so you should definitely watch these. Then I would move on to McCoy then the 1st,2nd,5th,6th doctors episodes (because 1st and 2nd doctor episodes in black and white, 5th doctor story's aren't very strong, and the 6th doctor episodes were 3 quarters of an hour long so you can get bored easily. Everything I have said above does sound a little mean but it is the truth, they are all amazing episodes in their own way but because they are split into many parts the writers have to compensate by writing complete rubbish or even small talk, but what you have to remember is when it aired, it was shown episode 1, then a week later episode 2 but when you get them on a DVD all the episodes are all at once so you really notice this small talk, or boring cut-away's.

Here I will tell you about some of the mysteries of doctor who that have been bugging me and that I hope we get answers to and what I think the answer is. Who was the woman in the shop? If you don't know what I am talking about it's the woman in the shop from 'The bells of St John' who gave Clara the TARDIS number calling it 'the best helpline in the universe'. For me it comes down to three people; Rose (since she is returning in the 50th) so it could be possible but unlikely. River Song again seems unlikely but who else would know the TARDIS number. And lastly the person who seems the most obvious is Clara herself. Since she was cut up in time ('the name of the doctor') she could have easily rung herself even though there are a few plot holes it seems the most likely. Who destroyed the TARDIS? Honestly I don't have a clue. Personally the most likely answer is the Silence but you can't really ask me because even though I have watched the episodes over and over I just do not understand 'the big bang' episode at all because I think Moffat makes things overly complicated (on purpose obviously to annoy us) Will we see River Song again? At the end of 'The name of the doctor' it seemed to me that River was saying farewell to the doctor, and although I haven't noticed it I actually don't want her to go. She is an amazing character and I love how she is kind of an equal to the doctor. I really hope we see her again. Who is John Hurt's doctor? I think the whole of the 50th anniversary is going to revolve around him so far whovians are pretty sure he is the ninth doctor because he is wearing a mixture of 8th and 9th doctor clothes but we don't really understand why we haven't seen him. Something i'm pretty sure we will find out. What is the doctor's name? Simple for me, some will call me crazy but I think the doctor is Davros, I haven't really thought how but I just think he is, he could be. There would be a few plot holes but it could be possible... Of course I don't think they will ever reveal the doctors name. They can't call it doctor who then could they? There are loads more mysteries and Moffat has said that we will get answers in the Christmas special! What are your opinions? Start a discussion in the comments of this post. This is one of those story's where you think 'Urghh, what an embarrassment!' But I don't think that at all. Here I will discus why people think it is a bad story and why it is a good story. Why do people not like this story? I think people don't like this episode because the doctor and Rose aren't in it very much, but how is this a bad thing? 'Blink' one of the greatest story's in 'new who' featured the doctor much less than this episode I think. But I think the main reason people don't like this episode is that it has been stereotyped as a bad episode by past whovians and now people who haven't even watched it judge it as a bad episode. This is because it has been stereotyped as this from bad press and as I have said whovians. Stereotyped means that as soon as somebody say's it you instantly think 'bad episode' so when you think of England you think of tea maybe, this is a stereotype. Overall I think people should watch it before they judge it. Why it is a good story: This story is very good because it shows the perspective of the doctor on humans, while he goes travelling away in his TARDIS we see the impact he has had on Earth and the people of Earth. The story centres around Elton who has met the doctor when an Alien killed his mother and the impact this had on the rest of his life. Sure some of the aspects of this episode are stupid or unrealistic but why can't it be? This is doctor who, anything can happen. Then we see Elton join a group called L.I.N.D.A who have all met the doctor or want to. Again this shows the impact the doctor has on Earth. And finally we see the Absorbalof who a young child designed for blue peter and I thought it was a very good idea. Overall this episode is just as good as any other doctor who episode, we have emotional scenes and good effects. The only problem with the episode is that it has been stereotyped as a bad episode. Hopefully next time you watch it you will see the good things and not the bad. Is the doctors sonic being used to get the doctor out of tricky situations too often? Should it go back to being used just to open locked doors? I will be discussing all of this in this post... Yes the doctors sonic is being overused: It is being used as a deus ex machina to often which means it is being used to get the doctor out of tricky situations instead of the writers using their brains and thinking of an imaginative way to get the doctor out of trouble rather than the doctors sonic. In the 'classic' series we saw the doctors sonic open doors (accept wood or deadlock seals, why the writers came up with this I don't know) sure we saw him stun a few creatures and create a few explosions but that was about it. A handy tool good for opening doors which is fine. Then the new series comes along with the sonic doing all sort's of things like sonicing a phone so you can get in touch with the doctor. The first few series' weren't too bad with overuse on the sonic then series 7 comes along and it does loads of different things. It was overused WAY too much in 'the rings of Akhaten' then in 'The crimson horror' it was just silly. It got the doctor back from being part of the crimson horror to back to his normal self, clothes and all. That would never have happened in the classic series and that was just too far I think. No the doctors sonic is not being overused: It is the sonic screwdriver, one of the doctors most trusty weapons and most recognised weapon. It needs to be used a lot even if it is a deus ex machina. Final verdict: As you can see above there are much more things agreeing that the doctors sonic is being overused than disagreeing. Overall I hope that next series we don't see as much of the sonic screwdriver and more of the writers being a little more imaginative, we should only see it when the doctor wants a door opening (so long as it isn't made of wood.) In this post I will decide whether it's a good thing all 11 doctor's aren't in the 50th or a bad thing. Good thing: If it has all eleven doctors the episode will be crowded and there would be no plot or you wouldn't focus on the plot. It may get confusing, too many plot holes and many continuity errors. Three of the doctor's have died so you will have a problem finding actors that look like them or even animating them. Some doctors may not want to participate so you would either have to spend a lot of time trying to get them to do it or having to find actors that look like them and all this would take time so it could impact the actual plot/episode. Bad thing: If all living doctors were involved it would get more viewers and make fans happier, also it could create fans of all ages as people who for instance had Tom Baker as 'their' doctor would watch and begin to watch regularly. It would help make the episode more dynamic and more of a sense of occasion and even help the plot because they don't need to be central characters just cameo roles like William Hartnell in 'The three doctors.' Final verdict: I think it would be good to have all the doctors but as above it could damage the plot, I think they should bring back some doctors for cameo roles but not all because I doubt all of them would want to do it (*ahem Christopher Eccleston.) Thanks for reading. What's your opinion? Share in the comments of this post. In this post I am going to be discussing my opinions and views on the casting of Peter Capaldi as the twelfth doctor. When I first sat down the watch 'doctor who live' I was filled with expectation. I was fearful yet exited yet curios, fearful as what if they picked an idiot, exited as I was going to find out the new doctor and curios as what if it was to be a woman doctor or a black actor (I later found out a black actor was offered the role) and I watched until finally the new doctor was announced: Peter Capldi. My first thought was who the hell is that? My next thought was whoever he is he looks like he could be a good doctor, he looks very mysterious. My next though was oh look he is Scottish, let's hope he uses his Scottish voice unlike David Tennant and my last thought was oh yeah he is that guy from 'The thick of it' he plays that guy who swears after every word he says (if you are a kid, don't look up 'The thick of it' in youtube unless you want to hear a whole lot of swearing (and I know some people worried because they think children will look up Peter Capaldi's past work.) Well now I know Peter Capaldi's past work I am still sure that he is capable of playing a good doctor, I guess we will have to wait to find out what he is going to be like. My opinion is that he probably won't stay long as he is 55 (almost the same age as William Hartnell, the oldest actor to play the doctor) but I could be wrong as at that age you don't have to worry about being typecast really. Anyway now you know my reaction to the twelfth doctor. I would love to hear your opinions on his casting so email me and share your opinions (email in top right corner) Thanks for reading! Yesterday, for the first time ever I went to the doctor who experience and in this post I will share my thoughts on the experience. Enjoy. It was amazing, you go into an area where there is kind of a trailer of the 11th doctor then the wall opens up to show the crack in time opening (the eleventh hour). You then walk through the crack and enter the 11th doctor's first TARDIS where the doctor talks to you and you pilot the TARDIS, here there are lot's of effects like smoke and the ground shakes. You then go through corridors meeting Daleks and Weeping Angels on the way. You then enter the exhibition section which is just full of doctor who props and costumes, you come face to face with most doctor who monsters and costumes worn by doctor's and companions. After here you enter the shop which is the most amazing place EVER! They have a spectacular amount of DVD's classic and new, posters, stationary, figures and figure set's and collectables. I managed to get (with my £100) : Rory figure Companions bookazine special 2nd doctor lost episodes magazine Revisitations 2 box set DVD Mannequin mania box set DVD Ace adventures box set DVD The claws of Axos (SE) DVD Battlefield DVD The curse of Fenric DVD 1 blind box Titan (11th doctor) 3 blind bag character building doctors (3rd, 8th and 9th doctors) So, a little while ago we found out the shocking news that Matt Smith who has been playing the role of the 11th incineration of doctor who would be stepping down from the role in the 2013 Christmas special and ever since then discussions have been raging across the internet about whether the next doctor should be female. Today I will be looking at both sides of the argument and giving my final verdict. The next doctor should be Female: It's time for a change if they got a female doctor it would make the show even better, sure we will loose fans but we will also gain fans. And why shouldn't there be a female doctor, his women companions have shown us that we can connect with them and they are just as strong and as friendly and as forgiving as the doctor. The next doctor shouldn't be Female: It will ruin the show! It would loose all the fans out there, some people would watch it and they would discover that it wouldn't be the same and then nobody would watch it. It would be much harder to write for a woman doctor and how would male villains react to her? Final verdict: I personally would not like a female doctor but in terms of what I have said here it could be possible but as mentioned it would loose a lot of fans. It basically all comes down to luck, they could try it and they would either loose fans but gain more or just loose fans. Overall this is really tricky but I think for now they should stick with a male doctor, but I am all for a black actor to play the doctor. |
