Yes it's here, complete at last with two animated episodes! Now first off I am not here to tell you about the plot, you've got to find that out yourself! The cover is just absolutely amazing, and I feel so happy to be holding it here in my hand, 'The Ice Warriors' glimmering across the cover, an episode that hasn't been fully watched really for 46 years, it makes me feel really exited (you'll understand when you buy it). Everything about the cover relays how important the episode is, the colours look perfect and overall it's just amazing! My only fault is that the ice warriors here are the same ones as on the cover of 'Silent stars go by' (the book by Dan Abnett) but that's only a small thing. The Ice Warriors are in their element here, as you should know this is the first time we meet them and they are as creepy as hell! Which they have to be so that everybody loves them and we finally see them return in the 50th anniversary year which kind of shows how this episode impacted people when they first watched it. The Ice Warrior voices are the worst, they cut through you like a knife through butter. Way more scary than the voices used in 'Cold war'. The animating I just love, for some reason the animating used in doctor who just seems so amazing, it simple yet so detailed, by simple I mean I could probably draw the doctor in the way they have but somehow they also make it seem so complex, they take a lot of care and time into this so well done them! The set's are a bit rubbish but the interior set's look brilliant! The Ice Warrior costume has some flaws like the hands but they still were good for the budget they had. There were some really realistic effects like the avalanche. I could go on forever writing about how great this episode was but I am running out of room. So overall a great episode and you need to buy it!!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode, I know some people have moaned about this episode but I just can't see what's bad about it. This episode is one of my favourite Christmas episodes because I just loved everything about it; the setting, the characters, the effects and of course the monsters. I loved the concept of the 'host' who I found REALLY scary when I first watched it, their blank faces remind me of the robots in 'robots of death', the way they look so beautiful but can turn so deadly and their body's all remind me slightly of the weeping angels but these seem more fragile. We get to see how they attack which is by pulling of their halo and throwing it which is pretty much genius because halo's are often thought as a good thing but here we see it as a bad thing. I would have loved to see the host again but I guess like the weeping angels it would ruin the effect they first had when we first met them. The setting was also genius, what other show can you set the episode on a spaceship that looks like the Titanic but from the future? I loved the characters; the tenth doctor was amazing as usual but I thought the real star was Astrid as played by Kylie Minogue. Everything about her character was amazing and she played some really emotional scenes perfectly and the way she died by sacrificing herself was sad but great writing. Overall a super episode with a super plot and super effects. A good episode although I wasn't sure about it a first. Let's start with the Cybermen. The new design I am not sure about, it is good but I just think it is too much, it has included to much things and looks overcrowded and odd. Also I think it looks too bulky, therefore this design isn't my favourite design. I liked the fact that if a Cyberman came into difficulty it could simply upgrade and they would overcome this weakness, I thought this was a good idea as Cybermen before were let's face it pretty easy to defeat. Now they are basically unstoppable. I think this episode needed to be a two parter so that we could really get to grips with these new Cybermen, I don't think they have been shown to their full potential so hopefully we get to meet them again very soon, although I am angry that they were blown up because this means the next time wee see them half the episode will be about how the cybermen re built themselves which I honestly couldn't care less about, I want to see them like how they were in 'the age of steel'. A better way to end the episode would have been like in 'Victory of the Daleks' when they got away. I didn't like Angie and Artie at all, Artie was al right but Angie was ungrateful, if I met a man that could travel in time and space I would be little more amazed than that! I really liked Porridge in this episode I thought he worked well in this episode and discovering who he was, was a good shock. Overall great acting from Clara and the doctor, super effects and a good episode but some wasted potential. This was actually my favourite classic episode before I saw 'City of death' so I am surprised I haven't done this episode before. It is a great episode with a great plot and the plot is one of the reasons why the episode is so good. The plot I complicated yet simple, you have to watch the whole thing to understand it (a bit like one of Steven Moffat's story arc's) but once you understand you see why it is a good episode. Basically the doctor and Jo arrive in a machine (but they don't know it) the machine is basically like a zoo where you can look at things. The doctor and Jo brake out of their 'exhibit' let's call it and walk around inside the machine they then enter another 'exhibit' with weird creatures in it. So basically the plot is about the doctor and Jo in a futuristic zoo. The acting and effects were all great. The set's were spectacular. My only fault is that we didn't see more 'exhibits'. Overall a great episode and definitely worth watching. (as requested by Kroton_28) This was a great episode and possessed everything a doctor who episode should. This is one of my favourite 'new who' episodes and easily my favourite 11th doctor episode. The plot is great and makes sense, the acting is top notch and the effects are also great. I really loved the dream lord who we found out was in fact the dark side of the doctor, Toby Jones played the character perfectly and I liked how he worked with Karen Gillan (Amy). The dream lord is probably one of the characters I would love to come back, possibly to face the twelfth doctor. There was a lot of comical scenes (Rory whacking Mrs Poggit) which as you should know I love. The comical parts were well written, witty and beautifully performed by the actors. I loved the whole idea of two worlds, one's a dream and one's reality (as it turned out both were dreams) and I liked how they did this and set it up. Overall a great funny witty episode and I would love the dream lord and Simon Nye (writer) to return. I really enjoyed this episode and definitely recommend watching it. The whole murder mystery thing is brilliant for this episode and I love murder mystery episodes. The fourth doctor is great here and so is Leela they work very well together in this episode and great acting especially when the doctor is in that cupboard filling with whatever, great acting here. The robots I thought were fabulously made and look absolutely brilliant, I wouldn't mind one for my collection. One of my only faults with this episode was the set's, don't get me wrong some were brilliant but there were some like the outer view of the ship weren't very good but I understand they had a small budget. One of the great aspects of the episode was seeing how the 'robots' react to things because this episode really goes into things, I thought this made the episode so great. The effects were good but not amazing. The features were very good especially one called 'Robophobia' which was amusing and interesting. Overall a good episode and definitely worth watching. At first my thoughts on this episode was mixed, I wasn't really sure whether I liked it. After a re watch I decided it was good but it wasn't good as the Pond's last episode. To say it was their last episode it could have been better for the longest serving companions in new who with 2 and a half years under their belt, I think it should have definitely been a two parter to make it more significant. Another thing I didn't really like about this episode was the weeping angels. They have now been too overused and this has kind of ruined the impact they had when we first met them in 'blink'. Another wasted opportunity was the statue of liberty weeping angel. When I first heard the weeping angels would be in New York I instantly thought 'statue of liberty'. And I was looking so forward to the episode I was thinking it would be like 'the next doctor' with the cyberking but no. We got the face of the angel and a little thumping from the angel walking. It had so much potential and I am so angry how Moffat didn't use this. One of the things I did like was the cherubs, a genius idea and kind of brought the scary back but not enough. The acting, directing and effects were all amazing, great acting from Karen Gillan (Amy) and Arthur Darvill (Rory). Overall a great episode but there were a lot of problems with it and SO much wasted potential! |
